Don’t want to go alone?

Tap Go together on any event and it opens in Hellohood, a free app for going to things with people nearby. You see who else is going, say hi in the chat before, and meet at the door instead of walking in alone. There’s also a city chat for Lisbon.

Lisbon for free

Lisbon has become a city of newcomers: remote workers, students, people who came for a summer and stayed. That makes the free social scene unusually open. Weekly meetups have regulars, but they are used to new faces every time.

The free walking tour through Baixa, Chiado and Alfama is the classic first day out. It’s tip-based and gives you the hills, the history and the places worth coming back to. In the evenings there are board-game nights in hostels and cafés, and English–Portuguese conversation evenings where you learn more “obrigado/obrigada” etiquette in an hour than in a week of apps. The digital-nomad meetups are free to join and the easiest way to meet people if you work from a laptop.
