Don’t want to go alone?

Tap Go together on any event and it opens in Hellohood, a free app for going to things with people nearby. You see who else is going, say hi in the chat before, and meet at the door instead of walking in alone. There’s also a city chat for Berlin.

Berlin for free

Berlin is one of the easiest cities in Europe to do things for free, because so much of social life here happens in public: in parks, in cafés with a language table, on the street. A lot of people in Berlin moved here from somewhere else, so nobody finds it strange when you turn up alone and say you’re new.

Language exchanges are the big one. Most nights of the week there is a Sprachcafé where you sit at a German, English or Spanish table and switch halfway. Saturday mornings belong to parkrun: a free, timed 5 km where walkers are as welcome as runners, and most people stay for coffee afterwards. If you’ve just arrived, the free walking tour is a good first afternoon. It’s tip-based, so you pay what you think it was worth.
