Don’t want to go alone?
Tap Go together on any event and it opens in Hellohood, a free app for going to things with people nearby. You see who else is going, say hi in the chat before, and meet at the door instead of walking in alone. There’s also a city chat for Bangkok.
Bangkok for free
Bangkok is huge, but its free social life happens in a few dependable places: language exchanges in cafés, board-game nights in community spaces, and run and walk clubs in the big parks once the heat drops. Thai–English exchanges are especially popular, because many Thais want to practise English and many visitors want more than taxi Thai.
Plan around the heat and the traffic. Outdoor things happen early in the morning or after sunset, and choosing something near a BTS or MRT station saves you an hour in a taxi. Run clubs here are relaxed: many are explicitly “not about pace”, and the point is the people and the food afterwards.
Good to know in Bangkok
- Lumpini and Benjakitti Forest Park are free and are where most run and walk groups meet.
- Pick events near a BTS or MRT station. Rush-hour traffic can turn 5 km into an hour.
- Bring water and go early or late: outdoor events avoid the midday heat for a reason.
- At language exchanges a polite “sawasdee krap/ka” goes a long way, even if you speak no other Thai.
